Promise Project

Promise Project StudentsPromise Project is an after-school, educational enrichment program open to students from Hempstead’s Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School. Students will be challenged to reach their full potential and become the best they can be both personally and academically.

The Students agree to:

  • Attend daily after-school program where they will receive help with homework
  • Involved in community service learning projects
  • Participate in club activities
  • Play sports
  • Engage in cultural arts activities

Guest speakers and workshops will be scheduled for both participants and their parents or guardians. Family activities will be periodically scheduled so the students will have opportunities to showcase their accomplishments in the program. Summer of Promise activities are offered for 6-weeks in the areas of literacy, art and science to reduce summer learning loss.

As the Promise Scholars advance, the program’s activities will continue to grow with them and include visits to colleges and assistance with applications and financial aid forms. Weekend, summer and evening activities will be added to meet the needs of the program’s young people and their families.
