Homeless Youth

We offer homeless youth more than shelter; we offer them safety, compassion and hope for a brighter future. We are their safety net. Yes, we give them a warm bed and a nourishing meal; but often children who are suffering from homelessness or an intolerable home situation need more.

A Safe Place

Walkabout, our residence for homeless youth, is a cozy colonial style home located in Freeport that houses 10 formerly homeless young people for a period of up to 18 months. At Walkabout, youth learn to juggle home-making responsibilities, a part-time job and attend school while also receiving emotional support, financial counseling and tutoring. We offer them the life skills they need to transition between childhood and the responsibilities of adulthood. Through our integrated network, we also provide counseling, family mediation or support services in order to help these young people build successful lives.

Help Transform a Life

We offer these residents the opportunity to apply for college/trade school scholarship through our Scholarship Fund program. The Scholarship Fund program helps support the aspirations of these young people to continue their education in order to become self-supporting adults.
